Sights Visited on This Tour

The two most prominent buildings of the Garan are the Kondo Hall and the huge Konpon Daito Pagoda. The Hall is a large wooden temple hall where major ceremonies are held.

Hugged by Mount Fuji and Lake Ashi, Hakone is a scenic town in the Japanese countryside. It is most famous for its red torii gate and Shinto shrine.

A modern city on Honshu Island, was largely destroyed by an atomic bomb during World War II. Today, Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park commemorates the 1945 event.

Spacious market with vendors selling street food, fresh produce & shellfish, plus souvenirs. An amazing place to spend splendid times in a peaceful area full of locals.

Kyoto is the cultural heart of Japan, brimming with Buddhist temples, Shinto shrines, and dazzling gardens and palaces. It is the best city to experience Japan's cultural nuances.

A small island in Hiroshima Bay, it is known for its forests and ancient temples. Just offshore, the giant orange Great Torii Gate is partially submerged at high tide.

A Buddhist temple complex perched on Mount Koya, Koyasan is considered one of the most sacred sites in Japan. It is also a scenic retreat with its epic mountain views.

This sacred area is home to the mausoleum of Kobo Daishi, founder of Shingon Buddhism. The cemetery is an important center for Japanese culture and a photogenic spot.

The large port city of Osaka is one of the trendiest cosmopolitan urban centers in Japan. It is a traveler's hub with vibrant nightlife and top-notch international cuisine.

Once a significant military base, Osaka Castle is a historic landmark and graceful touch to the city's skyline with brilliant architecture and beautifully manicured gardens.

This museum is dedicated to documenting the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in World War II. The museum was established in August 1955 with the Peace Memorial Hall.

The Hiroshima Peace Memorial is the only building that remains intact at the explosion site of the atomic bomb. It pays homage to the victims with its half-demolished state.

The mountainous Takayama town is an idyllic place nestling Japan's age-old traditions and rural charm. Hida Folk Village is one of its highlight attractions.

Japan’s busy capital mixes the ultramodern and the traditional from neon-lit skyscrapers to historic temples. The Imperial Palace sits amid large public gardens.

I recently embarked on an amazing journey through Japan with Travel Talk Tours. We did the Ultimate Japan tour and visited famous places like Tokyo, Hakone, Takayama, Hiroshima, Kyoto, Mount Koya, and Osaka. From the moment I arrived in this captivating country until the goodbye, every part of the journey was flawlessly arranged.

We learned a lot about Japanese culture, from peaceful temples in Kyoto to bustling streets of Tokyo. Staying in a traditional ryokan in Mount Koya and visiting the Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima were emotional experiences.

The itinerary was perfectly planned, and our guide was fantastic. They knew a lot about Japan and made our trip special. One of my favorite parts was visiting the Hida folk village in Takayama, where we learned about the region’s history. Mount Koya and the Bamboo Forest in Kyoto were also incredibly beautiful.

Our guide introduced us to the unique local dishes at every stop, giving us the chance to enjoy Japan’s diverse and delightful flavors. We had the opportunity to try delicious regional cuisine in each place we explored. Whether it was savoring sushi in Tokyo or indulging in the famous okonomiyaki of Hiroshima, every dining occasion was a delightful adventure.

The accommodations throughout the tour were both comfortable and charming. Whether it was a modern hotel in Tokyo or a temple stay in Mount Koya, I always felt well rested.

In short, my Japan trip was amazing, and I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants a memorable experience in Japan.

OldbutSane.

Thought I should review this tour as others have not.
1. Tour guide KJ was excellent. He went out of his way to help, took us to Nara on his day off (our free day in Kyoto). He organised transport as best as possible (but see below for other comments). He also organised dinners at reasonably priced restaurants (I did not attend them all), but thought Italian on last night was a bit odd (apparently some on the tour did not want Japanese food).
2. Accommodation was very good, except for Tokyo where we stayed in Roppongi. We arrived a few days earlier and stayed in a much nicer hotel in the Ginza (at about the same price on booking.com). Rooms in Roppongi were small (two ladies sharing had no room between beds, so had to climb to end of bed to get up) and location is poor for best subway lines to places visited.
3. Travel times in itinerary need to be more accurate. One day was supposed to be 5 hours and it took over 8.
4. Tour tries to pack in too much. It would be better to leave out Osaka and spend two days in Hakone and 3 in Takayama (or 4 in Kyoto and include day trip to Nara). People can still get to airport easily from Kyoto.
5. Breakfasts at hotels varied, but we’re generally OK with multiple options, including standard fruit, yogurt, sometimes cereal and bread/pastries but also often including lots of salad items, curry, soup, etc as well as more traditional Japanese foods. I certainly never went hungry. Tea and coffee were also freely available. Several hotels also had free snacks or drink at night. Exception is Buddhist monastery but that was expected and food there was very nice.
6. Several hotels had onsens, worth a try at least once.
7. There is lot of travelling involved, Luggage transfers worked fine. On days we had to pack for one or two nights we dropped backpacks at hotel when we arrived at destination (used lockers at Himeji castle).
8. Not as much walking on tour as expected and was often at too slow a pace. Tour needs a fitness category attaching to it so participants know requirements in advance.
9. We did not have to walk long distances to and from train stations and luggage transfers meant we did not have to move our own luggage (except overnight backpacks). That said, travel very light in Japan if you do need to take Luggage on trains as there are often no luggage racks on them (and not just on Shinkansens).

Would recommend to anyone not wanting a bells and whistles tour.

Akemi and her assistant Kine make the best team. I have taken over 30 tours with various tour companies. Akemi is well-organized and extremely friendly. She ensures that everyone in the group is taken care of. She always goes the extra mile for our needs and handles all issues professionally and immediately throughout the whole trip.
