Croatia Travel Advice

Make sure you are up-to-date with the pre-departure essentials before your trip to Croatia.

Passport & Visas

Croatia is part of the European Union but not included in the Schengen area. If you are traveling from the EU, Australia, New Zealand, UK, USA, and Canada, you do not require a tourist visa for stays up to 90 days in a 6-month period.

Your passport needs to be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival in Croatia, and you should carry your passport or travel document with you at all times.

Check with your embassy or your official government website for foreign Croatia travel advice. Bear in mind that the information we provide is for guidance only, and you are advised to check the details as it is your responsibility to have all the official documents ready before traveling.

We recommend all travelers to check their Government National Travel Advisory prior to their departure: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, USA

  • To prevent any unwanted surprises, make sure your plan covers emergency medical situations, cancellations, and threats against your personal belongings.
  • Based on your tour and country, there may be adventure activities that your travel insurance does not include.  So, look carefully at what your policy covers.
  • Make sure you have the latest information regarding safety and health issues. Check out the Government’s Travel Warnings, which keep you informed about civil and natural situations. You can find useful Croatia travel advice on governmental websites.
When to Go
  • High Season

If you wish to savor the best of what the Dalmatian Coast has to offer, the best time to visit Croatia is in summer, when the coast experiences mild and warm weather. Temperatures vary between 25 and 30°C. The sun is shining throughout the day, making it a perfect time to enjoy the beaches. Keep in mind that it is the high season in Croatia, which means the touristic hotspots like Dubrovnik will be hosting flocks of travelers.

  • Low Season

If you prefer having the best places to visit in Croatia mostly to yourself, May and September offer a relatively peaceful time. The weather is still comfortably warm in these months. You will get to enjoy long hours of sightseeing in the coastal paradises of Hvar and Split, and have some quiet time on the beach.
